Eagles Were Up by 1 With 8 Seconds Left… Then THIS Happened and the Internet Lost Its Mind
For 59 minutes and 52 seconds, the Philadelphia Eagles fought through injuries and silenced the London crowd.
Then in 8 seconds, Nick Sirianni gave the game away.
On Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Eagles led the Jacksonville Jaguars 17-16 after Jake Elliott hit a 48-yard go-ahead field goal with just 8 seconds left. Philadelphia was seconds away from snapping a two-game losing streak and moving to 3-2.
All they had to do was kick the ball into the end zone.
Instead, Sirianni told Jake Elliott to kick it short and make it returnable.
Jaguars returner Ameer Abdullah caught it at the 8-yard line, broke through the coverage, and returned it 53 yards all the way to the Eagles 39-yard line — with 1 second left.
That set up Jacksonville’s Cam Little for a 57-yard field goal as time expired.
He made it. Jaguars win 19-17.
Coach Takes Full Blame
After the game, Sirianni didn’t hide.
“I didn’t make the right decision and I lost us that game. That’s what I said to our guys. What hurts there is the guys fought so hard and then I don’t make the decision I should make at the end and I cost us that game. I put that fully on me.”
Elliott confirmed to reporters: “I was instructed to kick the ball in to be returned and did what I was told.”
3 Straight Losses
The collapse marks the Eagles’ third straight loss after a 2-0 start. It’s the first time they’ve been under .500 since 2021. The Jaguars improve to 4-1 and stay in London next week to play the Texans at Wembley.
Fans on social media are calling it the worst special teams decision of the season, with one CBS analyst calling it “nothing short of coaching malpractice.”
One play. 53 yards. One second. And a win turned into a nightmare.
