We’re not even 3 hours into the Postseason and Austin Riley already delivered this EPIC moment
The Braves third baseman just became the first player in Braves history to strike out 200 times in a season — .219 average, 19 homers, career-high 201 K’s entering October. The worst year of his career.
Postseason doesn’t care.
Game 1, NL Wild Card Series. Braves vs Phillies. Bottom of the 8th.
Park is silent. The Phillies just took a 3-2 lead on J.T. Realmuto’s two-run triple off Chris Sale, who had been dealing — 9 K’s over 6 1/3, the longest postseason start of his career. Philly has their $20M closer, Jhoan Duran, on for his second inning. 100 mph. Game over, right?
Nope.
Michael Harris II singles. Ozzie Albies gets hit by a pitch. Two on, two out.
And Austin Riley — the Phillies’ longtime nightmare — gets a 100-mph fastball right down the middle and DOESN’T MISS IT.
385 feet, opposite field, 3-run bomb. 5-3 Braves.
AUSTIN RILEY GO-AHEAD THREE-RUN HOMER ATLANTA IS GOING WILD 🤯
Truist Park exploded. The dugout exploded. The guy who had 200 strikeouts just delivered the biggest swing of Atlanta’s season.m

It was personal, too. Riley has 24 career homers vs Philly — more than against any other team — with a .943 OPS against them. But he’d never homered against them in the postseason. Until today.
Final: Braves 5, Phillies 3. Braves lead the series 1-0 and are one win from the NLDS vs the Dodgers
Teams that win Game 1 of the Wild Card Series are 15-1 all-time. Philly now has to beat that stat AND a red-hot Braves team with Cristopher Sanchez vs Tyler Mahle in Game 2 tomorrow at 2 p.m. ET.
