Serena And Venus Williams Return To US Open Doubles And Instantly Help ESPN Pull 1.1 Million Viewers — Proof Their Star Power Is Untouchable
Serena and Venus Williams made their long-awaited return to US Open doubles, and the ratings prove one thing: people will always show up for the Williams sisters.
ESPN announced the match drew 1.1 million viewers, turning an early-round doubles contest into one of the network’s biggest tennis audiences of the tournament.
THE RETURN TENNIS FANS DEMANDED
It had been years since we last saw Serena and Venus team up on the US Open stage.
When their names popped up on the doubles draw, the internet exploded. This wasn’t about rankings or seeding. It was about history, legacy, and two sisters who changed the sport forever playing together one more time.
From the first serve, Arthur Ashe Stadium was packed. And at home, 1.1 million people tuned in.
THE NUMBERS DON’T LIE
1.1 million viewers is massive for doubles.
Most early-round doubles matches average a fraction of that. This telecast outperformed expectations and reminded everyone why networks still put the Williams sisters in primetime.
It’s also proof that star power still drives sports TV in 2026. You can have new stars, new storylines, but Serena + Venus = appointment viewing.
WHY IT MEANT SO MUCH
This wasn’t just tennis.
It was Serena, a mom of two, back on the court she dominated for decades.
It was Venus, still competing at the highest level in her 40s.
It was two Black women who broke barriers, won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together, and gave a new generation a blueprint for greatness.
Fans weren’t just watching points. They were watching a moment.
“I grew up watching them,” one viewer posted. “Seeing them together again made me cry.”
THE STORY IS STILL UNFOLDING…
With ratings like 1.1M, don’t be surprised if ESPN keeps pushing for more Williams sister tennis.
