EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The comeback story is over before it even started.

The New York Giants are releasing wide receiver *Odell Beckham Jr.*, the team announced Tuesday, ending his second stint in New York after just three games, 20 offensive snaps, and zero catches.

It was supposed to be the fairytale reunion. Eight years after the Giants traded him to Cleveland, Beckham — now 33 — signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal in June after a workout in East Rutherford. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, it was a mutual decision:

“OBJ has not been featured much despite earning a spot on the team, and the sides decided a mutual parting was best for everyone. This gives him an opportunity to catch on with a team in a better situation, where his talents can be better utilized.”

The reality was roster math. The Giants are now 2-1 but dealing with chaos at QB after starter Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2. On Monday they traded for J.J. McCarthy to back up new starter Jameis Winston. They also need to create spots for punt returner Braxton Berrios, who is out of practice squad elevations, and linebacker Malik Harrison.

Beckham, who does not play special teams and was firmly behind Malik Nabers, rookie Malachi Fields and Darnell Mooney, became expendable. Harbaugh even hinted Sunday would be his breakout — “I would think Sunday would be great. That would be the perfect time in my mind” — but it never happened.

For Beckham, it’s another brutal chapter. He sat out all of 2025 after a six-game PED suspension, and his last catch in the NFL was in 2024 with the Miami Dolphins (9 catches, 55 yards).

The Giants legend who was drafted 12th overall in 2014, won Offensive Rookie of the Year, made 3 Pro Bowls and posted 5,476 yards and 44 TDs in five seasons in New York will now hit free agency again.

The Rams and 49ers, both needing receiver help, have been mentioned as possible landing spots.

The OBJ revival in New York lasted 92 days. No catches. No miracle. Just a quiet exit.
