Turns out all that drama was for nothing.
Selena Gomez has confirmed she was not talking about Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner when she was captured on video whispering to Taylor Swift and Keleigh Sperry at the 81st Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night.
The “Single Soon” singer said the situation was misconstrued when she commented on an Instagram graphic (one of her favorite ways to confirm news these days, it seems) this week.
In the comments of a post that asked, “Was Selena Gomez Gossiping About Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet at Golden Globes? Here’s the Truth,” Gomez replied, “Noooooo I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up. Not that that’s anyone business.”
We can always count on Gomez to bring total candidness to social media. Her comment arrives only days after an insider told People the Only Murders in the Building star was never seen communicating with the Hollywood couple. “She was absolutely not referencing anything about Timothée or Kylie,” the source said.
The night of the Golden Globes, a fan theory began circulating, based on video of Gomez’s conversation with Swift and Sperry, that Gomez had tried getting a selfie with Chalamet (whom she starred alongside in 2019’s A Rainy Day in New York), but that Jenner had said she couldn’t.
This isn’t the first time the rumor mill has tried to claim there was beef between Jenner and Gomez. Last year, a few TikTok users accused Jenner of making fun of Gomez’s eyebrows with Hailey Bieber, the wife of Gomez’s ex-boyfriend Justin, on Instagram. Ultimately, both stars debunked the theories behind this supposed conflict.
