The three-time Super Bowl champion tore his ACL and LCL in his left knee during the final minutes of a December 2025 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, an injury that dashed the team’s playoff hopes. Mahomes underwent successful surgery in Dallas soon after and has since returned to intensive rehab at the Chiefs’ facility.
Head coach Andy Reid recently praised Mahomes’ dedication, noting the quarterback spends up to seven hours daily working with trainers. “He’s making progress every day,” Reid said. “He keeps showing up—that’s half the battle.”
Mahomes has shared his own positive outlook, calling the process “long” but one he’s “excited for,” with sights set on being ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season. While the timeline remains aggressive, the Chiefs remain hopeful for his full return.
