Chiefs release statement, confirm all staff is safe following Union Station shooting

The Kansas City Chiefs have released a statement following the shooting after the team’s Super Bowl parade that according to reports, left one person dead.

In the statement, the team confirmed that all Chiefs personnel were safe and sound after the chaos that unfolded outside of Union Station.

The complete statement from the team reads:

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside Union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally.

Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.

We are in close communication with the Mayor’s office as well as the Kansas City Police Department.

At this time, we have confirmed that all our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe and accounted for.

We thank the local law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist.”

Fans help capture suspect outside Union Station

A video that circulated online minutes after the incident captured a dramatic scene where, among the chaos, fans could be seen tackling and detaining a suspect until police arrived to take him into custody.

While police haven’t released an official statement on the individuals who have been arrested, videos from the scene show at least two people being handcuffed.
