BREAKING NEWS: U.S. Senators have officially called for President Trump’s removal from office under the 25th amendment.
Washington, D.C. — In a sharp escalation of political tensions, several Democratic lawmakers, including at least one U.S. Senator, have publicly urged the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office.
The calls stem from recent reports detailing President Trump’s communications with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, in which he reportedly linked his administration’s push to acquire Greenland to not receiving the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Trump stated he no longer felt obligated to “think purely of peace,” prompting critics to question his fitness for command.
Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) led the charge, posting on social media: “Invoke the 25th Amendment,” accompanied by a screenshot of related news coverage. Democratic Representatives Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) and Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Calif.) echoed the sentiment, with Ansari describing the president as “mentally ill” and calling for immediate action, while Kamlager-Dove warned that Trump’s actions risked American safety.
The 25th Amendment allows the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet to declare the president unable to discharge their duties, transferring power to the vice president. If challenged, Congress must vote within 21 days, requiring a two-thirds majority in both chambers to sustain the removal.
Experts note that such an invocation is highly unlikely under the current administration, as it would require Vice President JD Vance and a majority of Trump’s Cabinet—composed largely of loyal appointees—to act. No formal proceedings have been initiated, and the calls remain limited primarily to opposition Democrats.
The White House has not immediately responded to requests for comment. The controversy adds to ongoing debates over executive authority amid the president’s foreign policy initiatives.
This developing story is being closely watched as it unfolds in an already polarized political environment.
