**WASHINGTON** — President Donald Trump has selected federal Judge Aileen Cannon as the next U.S. Attorney General, the White House confirmed Friday evening, just hours after the abrupt removal of Pam Bondi from the post.
Insiders are already calling the pick “absolutely massive and yuge,” describing it as a decisive move to install a proven Trump loyalist at the helm of the Justice Department. Cannon, 44, a Trump-appointed judge from the Southern District of Florida, has been a close ally since her 2020 confirmation.
But one key thing about the incoming Attorney General is sending shockwaves through Washington right now: She is the same judge who presided over the classified-documents case against Trump and dismissed all charges against him last year in a ruling that drew fierce criticism from Democrats and legal watchdogs who accused her of bias.
