NFL players are renowned for their speed, and this quality is particularly crucial for wide receivers who need to outmaneuver linebackers and defensive backs in order to score touchdowns.
Recently, Simone Biles, the Olympic gold medalist gymnast and spouse of Jonathan Owens, a teammate of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson, shared a video on her Instagram Stories.
The video featured a foot race between Watson and Owens, with Watson ultimately emerging as the winner. In the clips, Watson initially stumbled at the start but quickly recovered and made a comeback.
Watson took to his own Instagram Story to comment on the video, posting captions that read, “Gymnasts are sneaky fast” and “Caught me off guard with that start.”
Having played four seasons at North Dakota State, where he amassed 2,140 receiving yards and scored 14 touchdowns, Watson was selected as the 34th overall pick by the Green Bay Packers.
He was brought in to fill the void left by Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who both joined AFC West teams (the Raiders and the Chiefs, respectively).
During the Combine, Watson showcased his impressive speed by completing the 40-yard dash in just 4.36 seconds. This placed him among the top ten fastest players in the event, with the first spot occupied by Kalon Barnes at 4.23 seconds.
However, despite Barnes’ remarkable speed, he was not chosen until the later stages of the draft. Notably, Watson was the highest-picked player among the top ten fastest participants in the Combine
