hen Prince William married Kate Middleton, it was a historic event full of royal protocol and tradition.
But after all the seriousness that comes with protocol came to an end, the wedding became a ‘normal’ event with dancing and drinking.
The most important job went to Prince Harry, who took the microphone after guests of the Prince and Princess of Wales enjoyed a three-course wedding meal.
Experts say the speech was funny and sweet, but, in keeping with tradition, it also slightly embarrassed the groom. However, it has also been claimed that it left Kate in tears.
Royal author Katie Nicholl gave some insight into the special evening in her biography Harry: Life, Loss, and Love.
On how the speech went: “It was loving, warm and funny and touched Kate deeply. The speech was peppered with Harry’s classic sense of humor, and he joked with his brother, ‘William didn’t have a shred of romance before he met Kate’.”
Kate and William invited 1,900 people to their wedding at Westminster Abbey, but as the day progressed, the guest list got smaller.
