The young royal received a rather upmarket present for his first birthday, and it’s installed at Prince Charles’ home in Highgrove When your grandad is the Prince of Wales it’s fair to say you’d expect some pretty decent birthday presents – and Prince George received one worth £18,000. The young royal was given a rather fancy Wendy house to play in at his grandfather’s house to celebrate his first birthday.

Given the hefty price tag, you’d expect this playhouse to be a bit more impressive than your usual children’s Wendy house. With a wood-burning stove and day bed, it’s safe to say that Prince George’s version is rather more upmarket. It is installed in the garden of Prince Charles’ home Highgrove, ready for the young prince, now eight, to play in along with his siblings, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four.

It can be glimpsed by visitors to the 15-acre gardens of Prince Charles’ Gloucestershire estate during a guided tour. The hut was presented to Prince George for his birthday from Dorset-based company Plankbridge as a thank you for funding received from the Prince’s Trust. It can be found in a wildflower meadow in the grounds. Furniture designer Richard Lee set up Plankbridge 15 years ago after being inspired by an ancient hut near Thomas Hardy’s cottage in Dorset.

The Cambridge children can also play in the treehouse which was built for the Duke of Cambridge on his seventh birthday. The wooden house on slate stilts was installed for Prince William in 1989 and has been refurbished by Prince Charles for his grandchildren to play in.
