Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are one of the best duos in the NFL. On the field, they’ve achieved some great accolades, while, off the field, they have an interesting camaraderie that even involves their family members. Obviously, they both know each other very well, which clearly showcased in Mahomes’ statements about Travis. Interestingly, Mahomes divulged an aspect of their relationship while speaking to the hosts of NBA TNT.
Mahomes went on to speak about an on-field habit Kelce has that would usually get any tight end into trouble. Coincidentally, he also attributed this habit to the kind of success they’ve had on the field together.
The wunderkind duo: Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce
Kelce and Mahomes have truly been a magical duo for Kansas City Chiefs. They’ve gone on to contribute to some of the major wins in the team’s history. However, with their greatness, there is also an unorthodox form of play involved. While speaking to several NBA HOFers, Mahomes spoke about a weird habit Kelce has that might get him into trouble one day.
Mahomes made a reference to their coordination and how he had to get used to a certain habit of Kelce’s. He mentioned how the tight end would never run the routes decided for him. While speaking about Kelce’s unusual playing style, he said, “It’s because he never runs the actual route that Coach Reid calls. We just let Travis do whatever he wants out there on the football field. Yeah, he’s good enough to not get in trouble I think that’s how he’s been his whole entire life because he can just kind of get by and use his athletics but not get in trouble.”
While Kelce might have an unusual style of playing, his activity on the field alongside Mahomes has obviously been very successful. They’ve gotten a spectacular level of success for the Chiefs with the way they’ve played together.
The fruit of Kelce’s impressive tight-end talents
While playing alongside Mahomes, Kelce has been one of the most lucrative offensive weapons for the Chiefs. Throughout his career with Mahomes, the tight end has gone on to catch 496 throws for a whopping 6,319 yards. Furthermore, he has gone on to score 48 touchdowns in 78 games, averaging 81 yards in a game. He has also rushed for 2 touchdowns. All in all, Kelce and Mahomes have been a deadly duo.
While Mahomes has openly admitted that Kelce’s style of play can get him in trouble, it is also obvious that his methods have been successful. It only remains to be seen how lucrative the duo will be for the Chiefs in the upcoming season.
