The favorites for US Open are diverse. Since Wimbledon Championships had been a thriller and took an unpredictable turn, the same might happen in the last year’s Slam. Every player is taking turns in winning titles, and there is no unanimous power. In the Citi Open, Coco Gauff achieved one of the best career titles ever.

The teenager defeated her 4 opponents in straight sets and claimed the title of Washington Open by winning 8 sets in a row. After her Citi Open title, the American sensation talked about her next tournament and unveiled the most exciting part of it, stating the reason behind her success.

In the post-match press conference, the WTA 7th seed in singles said she is more comfortable playing in Montreal as she feels at home in Canada. She expressed her gratitude towards fans and attributed her success to them as Gauff felt they respected her. She also said she has been practicing a lot and wishes to do well in the ‘Canadian Open,’ in Toronto.

Gauff said, “I kind of like Montreal, you know. I am not gonna lie I like to run a little bit better (laughs). It’s a more like American city, I feel like, but, you know, Montreal. Canadians, in general, are really nice people, and that’s maybe why I probably do well. The fans here are really respectful.”

The 19-year-old elaborated, “So I try my best to, even today, after practicing, it was raining, and I was trying my best to do sign as many as things I can, and for me, I never know which fans speak English and which fans speak French. So that’s been my hardest, uh, challenge playing in Montreal so far.”

The French Open finalist also shed light on working on her language skills as she hopes only for the best.

The former No. 1 in doubles opens up about her off-court learnings

When a reporter asked how good Gauff’s French is, the former 3rd seed in singles revealed that she is working on her French and Spanish skills as her fitness coach is French, physio and tennis coach are French. Gauff is surrounded by people from different cultures and languages who want her to know more about them.

Gauff spoke of her wish to win a WTA 1000 title in Montreal, as she loves the crowd and the support they offer to her. The American played the Canadian Open twice and could not go past the quarter-final both times, in 2021 and 2022. She lost to Camila Giorgi in 2021, and in the previous year, she lost to Simona Halep.

After her first-round exit from Wimbledon, the Citi Open title is her best comeback. She is on a 4-match-winning streak and will play Katie Boulter, the current British No. 1. Boulter exited the Citi Open in the qualifiers but won both the qualifier matches and the first round at the Canadian Open. Who do you think will win in Gauff Vs Boulter?
