Katie Holmes Makes Rare Comments on Bond With 18-Year-Old Daughter Suri

Katie Holmes is preparing for a new chapter as an empty nester.

While the Dawson’s Creek alum keeps much of her family life with daughter Suri Noelle private, the 45-year-old did make a rare comment about their bond as the 18-year-old heads to college.

“I’m proud of my daughter,” Katie, who shares Suri with ex-husband Tom Cruise, told Town & Country in an interview published Aug. 13. “Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy.”

Katie, who attended Columbia University back in the day, reflected on her own feelings about the college years.

“I remember being this age, this time of beginnings,” she continued. “It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”

Katie has kept Suri’s life as out of the spotlight as possible as she has grown up in New York City with her famous mother since the age of 6. However, back in May, Suri gave an unintentional hint at where she’s attending college, as the teen was spotted wearing a Carnegie Melon sweatshirt in a “decision day” TikTok posted by a classmate.

The Batman Begins actress would not confirm the rumors or the speculation that Suri is interested in music, fashion, and acting.

And college isn’t the only change in Suri’s life. Back in June it was revealed that Suri had dropped her father’s stage name “Cruise” choosing to instead go by Suri Noelle in her high school graduation—highlighting her mother’s middle name.

Katie separated from Tom in 2012, and the Mission Impossible star, who also shares kids Isabella, 31, and Connor, 29, with ex Nicole Kidman, was not seen in attendance at his daughter’s graduation.

As for Katie, she previously told Glamour in April 2023 that she was “grateful” to be Suri’s mom, noting, “She’s an incredible person.”
