“‘That was a great time the last time we were here — but we have a job to do,'” Patrick Mahomes said Thursday, looking ahead to the team’s second preseason game.
The place? State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, where the Chiefs defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
This time the team is taking on a very different opponent: The Arizona Cardinals.
And they got the job done.

How long will we get to see Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the starters?
Head Coach Andy Reid said Thursday that Mahomes would get the first half against the Cardinals.
But will he really?
Reid has a history of pulling the starters after a score or the first drive in the second quarter. But we’ll see.
Kansas City Chiefs Injury Report:
Defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton (knee), tight end Jody Fortson (shoulder), cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (knee), wide receiver Kadarius Toney (knee), and running back Isaiah Pacheco (hand) all missed Sunday’s preseason game. According to Sports Illustrated, the same group is expected to miss Saturday’s game as well. In addition, Fortson has been moved to the IR list.
ESPN reports CB Anthony Witherstone (toe) has been reverted to the IR list, and WR Nikko Remigio (wrist) and CB Nic Jones (fingers) remain questionable.
Chris Jones continues to hold out:
Defensive tackle Chris Jones missed the entirety of the Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp in St. Josepp as part of a contract negotiation holdout. The team has been fining Jones $50,000 for each day he remains absent from camp, a number quickly growing.
