JUST IN: President Macron says France cannot accept American and Israeli military actions But Donald Trump’s Bold Three-Words Response towards it Has Everyone on the Edge.
French President Emmanuel Macron declared Tuesday that France “cannot approve” of recent U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran, describing them as conducted “outside international law.”
In a televised address to the nation amid the escalating Middle East conflict, Macron placed primary responsibility on Iran for the crisis, citing its nuclear program, support for regional proxies, and domestic repression. However, he sharply criticized the U.S.-Israeli strikes that began over the weekend and led to the death of Iran’s supreme leader.
“The United States of America and Israel decided to launch military operations; they were conducted outside international law, which we cannot approve,” Macron stated. He emphasized that while France stands in solidarity with allies targeted by Iranian retaliation and has downed drones in self-defense, Paris rejects unilateral actions that bypass global legal frameworks.
The remarks highlight growing divisions among Western allies following U.S. President Donald Trump’s aggressive posture in the region, including naval escorts for oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. Macron announced France is deploying its aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle to the Mediterranean and working to form a coalition to secure vital maritime routes, including the now-closed Strait of Hormuz and threatened Red Sea and Suez Canal passages.
France has also reinforced defenses at home and in the Gulf, with additional assets sent to Cyprus. Analysts see the statement as a bid to assert European strategic autonomy amid fears of broader escalation and energy disruptions.
The address comes as oil markets remain volatile and regional allies urge restraint. Macron called for de-escalation while reaffirming France’s commitment to protecting partners and international stability.
