Jennifer Lopez Has Requested to Remove Ben Affleck’s Last Name From Hers in Divorce Filing
She has also requested no spousal support for her and Affleck.
While Jennifer Lopez has maintained her last name professionally, the pop star actually took Ben Affleck’s last name on paper after they married. But now, post-divorce filing, Lopez has requested to go back to her maiden name.
According to People, the “On the Floor” singer has requested that her name be changed to her former one, Jennifer Lynn Lopez. Also in the documents, the singer cited the reason for her and Affleck’s split as “irreconcilable differences” and requested no spousal support for either party.
In the document, Lopez checked to separate their (assets and debts), adding, “The exact nature and extent of separate property assets and obligations are unknown to Petitioner at this time. Petitioner reserves the right to amend this Petition when same is ascertained.”
Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, on her and Affleck’s second wedding anniversary. At the time, a People source revealed that Lopez was “very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage. He hasn’t shown any commitment and interest in making their marriage work. It’s gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself.”
As for the brow-raising date that Lopez chose to file, a separate People source stated that the performer “was done waiting and the date she did it speaks a ton.” Lopez chose to take the initiative with filing for divorce before Affleck because it “gives her control of the process,” the source added. “It’s good that she did it.”
