Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were able to overcome the obstacles that were in front of them. They were able to silence all the naysayers and go on to win the Super Bowl title. However, behind every success story, there are sacrifices that have been made. Needless to say, the champions paid the price of the Super Bowl win. In the case of Mahomes, it was his threatening ankle injury.
Throughout the post-season play, Mahomes had nursed a bum ankle and had performed well in spite of it. Interestingly, on the New Heights podcast, he was asked about his injury and his answer was very cagey.
Is Patrick Mahomes avoiding talking about his injury?
One of the latest episodes of the New Heights podcast was a live component that included people like Roger Goodell and Mahomes making appearances on it. The whole episode revolved around featuring the answers of the guests to a live audience. And one of these guests was Mahomes. While speaking on the podcast, Jason Kelce asked the QB about his ankle.
However, the QB was awfully sly with his answer and flipped the way he was speaking to his Super Bowl rival. He mentioned how he’s been having a good summer and spoke about the latest addition to his family. He also said“I got a uh the off-season has been different as you know uh have the baby boy. congrats to you as well.”
The QB seemingly flipped the tables on his interviewee by congratulating Jason for his newborn as well. It seems like Mahomes was doing all he could to avoid talking about his injury.
What has Mahomes’ plan been for his injury?
While he may not have indulged in any information about his ankle on the show, he has made his recovery plans very clear. After the end of their postseason, Mahomes has provided updates regarding his ankle. The QB has mentioned that he might not be feeling a 100% recovered but that hasn’t hindered his current levels of play. Mahomes also made it clear that while he is taking care of his injury, he is also ensuring the right amount of pushing against his limits. All in all, the QB’s recovery situation seems to be headed in the right direction.
While he might not want to make his recovery process public, Mahomes is doing a good job with his recovery. It only remains to be seen how ready he’ll be for the upcoming season.
