Princess Diana would not have been a fan of Meghan Markle if she was still alive today according to a royal photographer. John Swannell was personally commissioned by the Princess to take classic photographs of Diana with her sons William and Harry.
However Mr Swannell argued that the Duchess of Sussex had turned Harry into a “puppet” arguing that she had her own “agenda” when she joined the firm.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were married in 2018 in a lavish ceremony at Windsor Castle.
However in 2020 the royal couple announced they were going to be stepping down from royal duties.
They eventually permanently relocated to California. Although Diana was an admirer of Mr Swannell’s work he doesn’t think she would have been an admirer of the Duchess.
Speaking to The Daily Mail at Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair the photographer, now 75, said Diana would think the Duchess would have “stolen” her son.
He said: “I don’t think she would have liked her, because she’d think she’d stolen her son.
“He’s like a puppet now.” Mr Swannell went on to argue that the Duchess had an “agenda” when she met the Duke.
He said: “She seemingly had an agenda when she came over.
“She was a little known actress and an opportunity came up, and she took it, like anybody would.
“But she’s a very smart woman, that’s for sure. “She’s an operator.”
Last month royal author Tina Brown, the author of ‘The Palace Papers’ and ‘The Diana Chronicles’ told The Daily Beat that Diana would have felt Meghan was “steering” Harry in a negative direction.
She said: “Diana was very protective of her boys.
“She would have been very, very protective of Harry and I believe very anxious about this direction they’ve taken.
“I think she would have felt Meghan was steering Harry in a direction that was not good for Harry.
“I don’t think Diana would have been the great fan of Meghan that Meghan herself might perhaps imagine.”
