Jessica Pegula recently praised doubles partner Coco Gauff for her fun personality as well as her ability to balance tennis with her familial obligations.
Gauff returned the compliments in her post-match press conference following her straight sets victory over Mirra Andreeva. She stated that she considers Jessica Pegula her on-tour older sister who is always positive and supportive on the court, encouraging her to go for her shots and play her best. Off the court, the World No. 6 values her doubles partner as a friend and enjoys spending time with her.
“In a way, like, she does, in a way, she’s like my on-tour older sister in a way. Playing with her on the court, she’s always positive and, you know, telling me, You know, you’re good, go for your shots, keep doing that. Off the court, yeah, I really look to her as a friend and someone that I enjoy spending time with,” Gauff said.
The 19-year-old expressed her happiness at learning the positive things Pegula had to say about her as she reciprocated them in kind.
“Yeah, and I’m glad that she said some great things about me, because I definitely feel the same way about her,” she added.
