Channing Tatum Reacts to Ryan Reynolds Promising He’d Reprise Deadpool Role in a Gambit Movie: ‘Binding Contract’
The Marvel movie stars are ready for another installment
Channing Tatum hopes that he and Ryan Reynolds might be back on the big screen together in the future.
On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the Blink Twice actor, 44, reposted an Instagram message from Reynolds, 48, hinting that he would be down to join his Deadpool & Wolverine costar for another project if the opportunity presented itself. Tatum played the X-Men hero Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, fulfilling a decade-long dream to play the character onscreen.
Reynolds’ initial upload was his very own quote shared in a Sept. 7 Instagram post by the Marvel fan account MCU.Portal. The post included a quote from Reynolds, in which he promised to film a Deadpool cameo in a solo Gambit movie if needed.
“When he makes a Gambit movie, I’ll return the favor,” Reynolds wrote in a previous Instagram Story, referring to Tatum’s character in the 2024 summer blockbuster. “If he needs a Deadpool, I can do that. Someone to provide fresh orange slices to the crew, no problem. Name it.”
In Tatum’s response on Tuesday, he called his costar the “best human ever.”
“Also, this is a binding contract,” the Magic Mike actor added. At the bottom of his Instagram Story, Tatum added a gold “True Story” gif.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast earlier this month, Reynolds — who not only starred as one of two titular characters in the Marvel film, but also served as a writer and executive producer — said while he’s not sure if Deadpool & Wolverine will see another installment, he can say with confidence that Tatum did a spectacular job.
“I honestly don’t know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they’re obsessed with him in that role,” Reynolds said of Tatum’s Gambit. “It’s kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that’s really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action.”
“And Channing is so singular in how he plays that character,” Reynolds said, adding, “but also he’s so beautiful physically, the way he moves and the way he can pick up steps.”
In the meantime, Tatum — who recently split from fiancée Zoë Kravitz after three years together — will star alongside the actress, 35, in a movie called Alpha Gang. The Zellner brothers’ forthcoming film starring and produced by Cate Blanchett, will also feature Dave Bautista, Steven Yeun, Léa Seydoux and Riley Keough.
“They will continue to work together and are excited about a new project. They both love filming and creating. Channing has a lot of respect for Zoë’s focus and passion,” a source told PEOPLE.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now available to stream on Disney+.
