BREAKING NEWS: Taylor Swift might close out the DMC with a performance on Thursday, and Beyonce and John Legend will be the key performer tonight
John Legend will reportedly perform at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday and Pink will take the stage on Thursday.
CNN reports that the two Grammy-winning singers will each bring their voices to the United Center in Chicago in the last two days of the event.
Legend could be heard singing Prince songs in the background of CNN’s coverage Wednesday during rehearsal.
Photos of pop-country singer Maren Morris rehearsing at the United Center on Wednesday have also been uploaded to Getty Images, creating buzz that she could be performing too.
Newsweek has contacted representatives for Legend, Pink, and Morris.
John Legend, 45, spoke to CBS Mornings on Wednesday, claiming he’s endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election because he’s seen how “smart and charismatic and empathetic” Harris is.
“She is eminently qualified to be president. And then she also has the right character traits I think to be a great president, which means she cares about people’s lives, wants government to work for people and improve their lives,” Legend told anchor Tony Dokoupil.
“I don’t wanna sit out. I wanna make sure that my voice is heard, but also that I lift up other voices and make sure they’re heard too,” the All Of Me singer added.
Legend headlined a show for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker in Chicago this week featuring a surprise appearance from rapper Common, who performed at the DNC on Tuesday.
“I LOVE being in Chicago right now!” Legend wrote in an Instagram post of photos from the night. “So many inspiring changemakers have come to town. So many people who want to make our country stronger. Thanks to Gov @jbpritzker for welcoming us with an incredible event last night.
He continued, “Thanks to my brother, Chicago native @common, who came through to my set and surprised the audience with a rousing performance of our song Glory. All this after Chicago’s own Barack and Michelle Obama lit up the convention hall and the entire country with those incredible speeches. We’re fired up and ready to go!”
Legend previously performed at the 2008 DNC for former President Barack Obama and the 2020 DNC for President Joe Biden.
Pink
Meanwhile, Pink has also been vocal about more than just music. When Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022, the So What singer spoke out on social media.
In 2022, she released her song and music video for Irrelevant, which touched on topics including racism, sexism, and reproductive health care, civil rights in America, singing, “Girls just wanna have rights/So, why do we have to fight?”
Pink, 44, is in the midst of her The Summer Carnival tour and played a show in her hometown of Philadelphia on August 18.
“Thank you to my mom, my family, my friends, my junior high school guidance counselor and every single person who came out for a homecoming show that went beyond my wildest dreams!!” Pink wrote in an Instagram post.
Maren Morris
Maren Morris, 34, has previously made headlines for feuding with Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany while standing up for the transgender community.
In August 2022, Brittany wrote in an Instagram caption that many considered to be transphobic.
“I’d really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life,” Aldean wrote.
Morris fired back in a tweet, writing, “It’s so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie.” In an episode of Cosmopolitan’s Cheap Shots series published this week, the Bones singer said about her firey response, “I stand by it.”
