BREAKING: Iran cancels all diplomatic and indirect channels of communication with the United States and announces the suspension of any and all message exchanges, following Trump’s latest threat
**Tehran, Iran – April 7, 2026** – In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Iran has formally severed all remaining lines of communication with the United States, both direct and indirect, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced Tuesday evening.
The decision comes hours after U.S. President Donald Trump issued a fresh public warning that Washington would impose “maximum pressure” on Tehran if it continued enriching uranium beyond current levels. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Iran was “playing with fire” and that “the clock is ticking” on any potential military response.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani described the move as a “complete and irreversible suspension of all diplomatic, back-channel, and intermediary contacts.” He added that Tehran would no longer engage through third parties, including Oman and Switzerland, which have historically facilitated indirect talks.
“No messages will be received or replied to,” Kanaani said in a televised statement. “The Islamic Republic views the latest American threat as a declaration of hostility that makes any form of dialogue impossible.”
The announcement effectively ends the last vestiges of communication that survived the collapse of the 2015 nuclear deal. U.S. officials had used indirect channels in recent weeks to urge restraint after a series of Iranian missile tests and reported advances in its nuclear program.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the Iranian decision “regrettable but unsurprising,” saying the administration remains focused on protecting American interests and those of its allies in the region.
Analysts warn the total breakdown in communication raises the risk of miscalculation. “When the phone lines go dead in a crisis, the margin for error shrinks dramatically,” said Suzanne Maloney of the Brookings Institution.
The Iranian move also coincides with fresh sanctions legislation advancing in the U.S. Congress targeting Tehran’s oil exports and Revolutionary Guard commanders.
As of press time, no immediate military movements have been reported by either side, but regional markets reacted sharply, with oil prices spiking more than 4% in early Asian trading.
