WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump took to social media Thursday afternoon to unveil a sleek new architectural rendering of his proposed “New Upper West Wing,” a massive expansion he plans to build directly atop the existing White House Briefing Room.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the project as “tremendous” and “long overdue,” criticizing the current James S. Brady Press Briefing Room as “very small, outdated, and frankly dilapidated.”
“This is going to be beautiful, folks,” Trump wrote. “We’re putting a world-class Upper West Wing right on top — bigger, better, and much more luxurious. No more cramped little room for the fake news. They’ll have plenty of space now!”
According to the updated rendering shared by the President, the new multi-story addition will feature expanded office suites for senior White House staff, a large conference center, private dining areas, and a state-of-the-art media briefing hall with enhanced lighting and acoustics. The design includes modern glass facades, gold-trimmed detailing, and a rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of the National Mall.
White House officials say the project is still in the conceptual phase and would require congressional approval and significant funding. Critics have already raised concerns about historic preservation and the structural integrity of adding such a large addition to the 19th-century executive mansion.
Trump dismissed the criticism, stating, “They said the same thing about Trump Tower. This is going to be a masterpiece.”
No timeline for construction has been announced.
