Ewan McGregor Says It ‘Means the World’ to Have His Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Close to Carrie Fisher’s (Exclusive)
Ewan McGregor’s ‘Star Wars’ costar Hayden Christensen and ‘Beginners’ director Mike Mills celebrated him as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Ewan McGregor is in good company on Hollywood Boulevard.
The Scottish actor, 53, received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard — and it sits just feet from fellow Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher’s own star.
“That means the world to me. I was so lucky to get to know Carrie,” McGregor tells PEOPLE of the star’s placement after the ceremony. The Moulin Rouge actor recalled that he met Fisher, who died in 2016 at age 60, at a party in Malibu, Calif., revealing he was “so in love with her as a boy” watching her in the space opera series.
“I sat down with her on this beach and I felt like we just clicked and she made me laugh, she really made me laugh, and then we did a few things here in Hollywood,” he recalls. “We cohosted some fundraisers at her house… Anyway, we were cohosts and she just made me weep with laughter and she was incredibly funny. I miss her a lot, I always forget that she’s not with us. So anyway, the fact that we’re close together is really lovely.”
Fisher had her star on the Walk of Fame commemorated posthumously in a May 4, 2023 ceremony. The stars belonging to other Star Wars actors like Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill are also located on the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard. Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd accepted the honor on her behalf at the time.
“I’d absolutely no idea what it would feel like or what it would mean, but it means a great deal and it feels very very nice and I feel very touched by the whole thing,” McGregor told the audience assembled for his star ceremony during his speech. “I’m so moved that I’m close to my old friend Carrie Fisher on the pavement here, that means a great deal to me, too.”
